On December 2nd, the results of the World Steel Association 16th Simulated Steelmaking Challenge regional championship were announced. Two HBIS participants won the championship of professional group and student group in North Asia region. They will represent Chinese region in April 2022 to compete against the champions of the remaining four regional tournaments for the world championship crown.
The mock Steelmaking Challenge Regional Championship was held online on November 24, Beijing time, attracting 1,480 participants from more than 50 companies from 33 countries and about 90 universities.
This year, the competition added a carbon footprint requirement for simulated steel smelting. Participants will be required to successfully complete at least one secondary refining and subsequent continuous casting process to produce the specified grade of steel and meet the carbon footprint requirements, with the lowest cost of one result to determine their final score and ranking in the regional championship. After 24 hours of competition, Wang Ruibin, the employee from HBIS Tangsteel, won the champion of the Professional group in North Asia, and Li Qichen, a sophomore selected by HBIS Tangsteel Education Center, won the champion of the student group in North Asia.
